Hello, but disappointed with steamer

Post  jonesy1 on 16.01.11 18:36

Hello fellow halogen oven users. I have bought a

Delta kitchen halogen oven from Aldi to-day. I

was a little disappointed when trying to steam

some vegetables that they were still quite hard

after 20 minutes. After a further 20 minutes they

were a little better but still too hard to eat.

The vegetables were carrots, brocolli and

cauliflower.I wrapped them in aluminium foil and

made sure that they were moist.I used the low

steamer tray

The tempereture setting was 220c. They seemed to

be baked more than steamed.

Should I perhaps have added more water?

Thanks.

Hi and welcome jonesy1

Welcome

When you say you used the steamer tray, did you place it on a rack? Air circulates better using the high rack with the extender ring in place - no need to use the steamer tray when using foil packets. The times given in the manual are a bit ambitious too (I bought the same oven today as previously I had a 7 litre oven).

Thank you for that advice.

I did not use the rack but the low plate with holes in which they call the steamer.

The next time I will do it as you say, and allow more time than they say.

Les.
