bowls and dishes for the halogen oven

Post  adriant on 19.12.10 22:17

Hi, been a newbie to this way of cooking, we have just purchased our first oven. Can you tell us please what dishes do we use in the oven. Is it just ordinary pyrex or oven wear dishes, or is there special ones we should use.

Ha Adriant and welcome

Welcome

Anything that is safe in your 'big' oven is safe to use in the Halogen oven.

Hi, and welcome

You can use any cookware that you would use in your main oven, but not microwave cookware , hope you enjoy your new halogen oven, happy cooking.

Hi - I am also a newbie and accepted the 'anything you can use in an ordinary oven' comment however.......I am a great microwave combi user and would often cook with a combination of microwave and fan oven. 'Proper' cooking effect but quicker. To do this I used quite a few of the black dishes that supermarkets sell their lasagnes etc., in, and in which you 'cook' either microwave or oven.
DO NOT USE THESE IN THE HALOGEN I tried a couple of times and they go completely out of shap, become brittle and crack, leaving you with a much messier halogen bowl than needs be.

I love the oven so far - roast potatoes to die for (and yet reasonably healthy as they are only drizzled with olive oil) same with chips. I have taken to going a little further than blanching in order to get best results and when I pour off boiling water, returning to hob for a moment or two to shake potatoes, thus giving either roasties or chips a 'rough' exterior.....makes end result even better.

Thanks Charpur

I'll remember to exclude 'microwave & oven dishes' next time I'm asked - no-one has tested the combi theory before now.

Have a lovely Christmas.

I too, am new to my HO. I only used it to cook some pork steaks, potatoes and b/nut squash. Meat cooked too soon so had to finish off veg in a pan. Next try was jacket potatoes. I did tem in microwave first, then crisped them up a bit in HO. Feel I need to take a bit of advice to get things right. I was wondering what bowls and dishes I could use, too. I now have my answer.
There is something I would like to ask.....
Those metal extender rings that you can buy, well I have a cake tin with a loose bottom. the size fits the oven perfectly. Could I use this without the base as an extension thingy?

what about the lid of your halogen oven sitting on top of it. Is it a good seal? You don't want hot air /heat to escape.

If it's doing the job and you are happy using it, then why not.

Hi Reeta, Thanks for the reply. I never thought of that. I have not tried it yet but will have a go. Is there a special seal on the one you buy?

Thanks for the photo Reeta. I will check out my cake tin and see if it is similar.
