I have just bought a halogen cooker/oven and need recipes other than roasting poultry meat and potatoes. Has anyone tried to make a cake or Christmas pudding?

Has anyone tried to make a cake or Christmas pudding?

Post  hummingbird on 09.12.10 14:49

Hello and Welcome to the forum candelia. You can look at the recipe section there's a few cake, pud recipes not tried a fruit cake in it yey but if you treat the HO as a normal oven but allow bit extra time for cake centres to cook it shoould work out just as well, you do need tin foil to protect the top of the cake from browning to much and it can be useful to use the extentder ring if yoy have one. I will look for a cake recipe in my HO cook books.
Just found this one for syrup sponge pud you maybe able to alter it to xmas pud... santa

Prep time 15 mins cooking tome 1 hr30mins
Butter for greasing
75 ml (3fl oz) golden syrup
175g (6oz) self raising flour
75g (3oz) suet
50g (2oz) caster sugar
1 beaten egg
100ml (3.5floz) milk

Mix ingredients together until thoroughly combined spoon mixture into basin 1lt size.

Cover bowl with double layer baking parchment secur with string. Cover this with tin foil. Set basin in halogen bowl pour enough boiling water to come to a third of the way up pudding basin side

Set oven to 250c and steam for 1hr30 to 1hr 45 min or until just firm to touch and knife inserted to middle comes out clean. Leave in basin for 5 mins then invert on to serving plate. Hope this gives you some help
