Newbie needing HELP!!!!

Post  poga on 20.11.10 16:05

Hello Everyone
I purchased a Andrew James 12ltr Premium Halogen Oven which was delivered on Tues 16th. I am still trying to cook something in it. I tried a simple 250gram Jacket potato. I followed the instructions in the cookbook provided but even after 45minutes at 200deg the potato was still uncooked. What am I doing wrong please?
I tried to ring customer service this afternoon but they are not available till Monday.
My questions.
1. When preheating- Is the temperature reached when the light goes out?
2. How long should it take for 200deg to be reached?
3.Should I have been able to lift out the potote in my bare hand after 45mins?(It was cold)
4. Is it the light that provides the heat or is there a heating element?
Being a mere retired male who has to do all the cooking now I would appreciate any help or advice.

Thanks for taking time to read this

Hi Poga,
this is a recipe for jacket potatoes

2 large potatoes
Preheat your HO at 200c.
Prick potatoes all over with a sharp knife and place on the low rack
Cook them until they are soft in the middle but with a crunchy jacket
Cooking time is about 45 to 60 minutes depending on the size of the potatoes.
If you need to cook it a bit longer then do so

I must admit sometimes I cheat when I do jacket potatoes. I parcook them in the microwave then finish off in the Halogen oven

Your questions.
1. When preheating- Is the temperature reached when the light goes out? yes that’s right

2. How long should it take for 200deg to be reached? That depends on your oven

3.Should I have been able to lift out the potato in my bare hand after 45mins?(It was cold) no it should be piping hot

4. Is it the light that provides the heat or is there a heating element? It’s the light that does the cooking

Being a mere retired male who has to do all the cooking now I would appreciate any help or advice. It is never too late to learn Smile

Hope this helps.
It would be a good idea to read some of the posts for tips and advice when you have the time. You will find so many useful info there.

Hi Reeta
told you I would let you know the outcome. The fan was not working and Danny at Andrew James was true to his word. He sent me a replacement lid which I received on Wednesday.Everything is working ok now. Cooked Shepherds pie on Wednesday. Did 2 steak and kidney pies Thursday.Fish on Friday.Chicken Kiev on Saturday. Finally did Spam Fritters today for tea.
Not doing so bad now.
Guess why I have to call Danny next for?? A new lifting tool as I left the tool in the oven after use and forgot to take it out before preheating the oven. Result!!!!
No lifting tool left. Never mind I will get the hang of Thank you very much for your help and advice Reeta.

I cannot sing the praises enough for Danny at Andrew James!
I rang him this morning about the lifting tool and explained what I had done and he said he would send me one free gratis. What a firm!!
Not very often you get that sort of reply from a supplier is it.
