Boiled potatoes

Post  wendygirl on 22.08.10 20:20

Just got my oven and thought I would try something simple to start with.
I put 300grams of new potatoes in a glass bowl and added boiling water, I set the oven to 200c I then placed the bowl into the H/oven bowl.
After 35 mins the potatos were still only half cooked. The water did not boil in the bowl but was very hot.In the end I took the potatoes to the C/Ovens hob and finished then off in boiling water..
How long do they take in the H/oven..???
So first impressions are not good.
Going to try something else to cook, hope it works out better

Hi Wendy,
I have never done "boiled potatoes" in my HO but Sue did and was not successful.

Here is the link to her post

In my opinion it's best to do them your normal way. Myself I use the microwave.

Boiled Potatoes

Post  Gouranga on 08.09.10 22:30

Hi

I'm a newbie, too. But, as far as I can understand, the oven is AN OVEN, therefore will only do what an oven does. I don't know about you, but I don't boil potatoes in my old oven, but on the top.

However, now that I am a proud owner of a Halogen Oven, I want to unload my old electric cooker - so tell me, how do you do boiled potatoes in the microwave? How many pots, how much water, etc.

Also, I only discovered your site today and I think it's brilliant!

I am 63 year old female pensioner from Liverpool and hope to share experiences with you all as I go.

I guess people are just doing what the advertisements are claiming these ovens can do , such as - "it grills, bakes, boils, defrosts and roasts "

Hi Di,
you are based in France so I can only give you details for these bags from Amazon.
If you decide to shop for them elsewhere this will give you an idea of what to look for.

Many thanks Reeta. Yes you are very observant - we do live in France but we frequently shop from Amazon Uk and get the goods very quickly so I will have a look. Have bought several HO cooking books to keep me busy!!!!

Microwaving Potatoes

Post  alantennuchi on 08.01.12 12:48

Hi
I always "boil/steam" potatoes in the microwave. I use a Tupperware Rice Server to do this. I find them a godsend as far as microwave cooking is concerned.
All I do is put a half cup of water in the bottom of the container and then place the potatoes in the "strainer" that comes with it. Place the lid on and cook for approx 10 min. i cook frozen veg this way as well.
I bought these from ebay.
