Suitable for camping/caravanning??

Post  Lizzy on 16.11.09 22:22

Thinking about buying a Halogen oven. Does anybody know if it would be suitable for a camper van? Has anybody used one caravanning or camping? Would love to hear your experiences if you have.

I don’t have a caravan myself but I think this would be ideal. It is small and easy to store. You can use it outside to BBQ in summer. Easy to clean and not expensive to buy

Do you get electricity in a camper van?

Thanks for your reply Reeta. Yes we have electricity- but my main concern is would the power points on campsites be adequate for these ovens? Does anybody know what wattage they are? Question

I have a friend I often meet when camping, he has a small campervan and bought a small halogen oven. He has never had a problem with overloading the electricity on any of the campsites. I intend to take mine with me.

Hi Mo, thanks for that info- did buy one over Christmas so must get practicing one of the days now and be ready to try it out on the campsites.

Yo Mo,

I live in southern Ireland and have only camped in this country so far- hopefully some year we will take the ferry and tour England.

Hi Lizzy,
I have just joined the forum today. We have bought the 7 litre model to use in our touring caravan (not delivered yet). It is 1000W and will draw less than 5 amps from the post (1300 models will be around 6 amps). Caravan club posts have a 16 amp supply so no problem. If on other sites, the supply can be as low as 6 amps. You would just need to check your supply and make sure you don't have too much plugged in.
We'll hopefully be trying ours out towards the end of March.
Hope this is helpful, Junie
