Baked potatoes

Post  joysmugsnmore on 20.07.10 12:42

Hi Everyone
When baking potoatoes, do you put them on the high rack or the low rack? I have seen the recipe here, but it just says 'rack'.
Thank you!
Joy

Hi Joy,

here's your answer. A previous post from June

junie wrote:Hi, having read previous posts I cooked my baked potatoes from raw in my new oven. (I want to use the HO in my touring caravan and do away with the need to carry a microwave.)
I rubbed them with a little oil, placed them on the lower rack and cooked them at 180C. I turned them to brown them evenly and they turned out perfect. Slightly crisp and brown on the outside and light and fluffy all the way through.
They took almost as long as they would have in my standard oven but, with the lower temperature and output of the HO, they were still more economical.
All the best, Junie

Hi

They take around 40-50 minutes for an average sized potato.

Thanks, yes mine did as well. I want to get those big potatoes. I was just looking at a recipe (see url) and it seems there is no need to cut the raw potato on top first, this is what I have been doing.

Hi lonergan

I've never heard of cutting a potato on the top, I've always just pierced them with a fork.

hi

Post  artyuk on 15.01.14 23:40

what i do is to start them on the top rack then lower them to the bottom, good tip for you, they cook faster if you insert a metal skewer all the way through top to bottom, that way they heat from the inside out as well so cook even faster
