Preheating the Oven

Preheating the Oven

Post  junie on 13.05.10 12:03

I started off by not preheating my oven as I felt that it heated up fast enough, but the more I use the oven, the more I feel there is a case for preheating.

This applies to foods with a shorter cooking time and higher cooking temperatures. Five minutes seems to suffice.

Any other opinions on this Question

Hi Linian and thanks

I think my problem is the small size of the oven (7 litres). If I place a larger baking tray in or cover the rack with food, the heat doesn't get to the bottom very quickly and things take longer to cook. I don't have the same problem with smaller items.

have had that problem once or twice but tend to put longer cooking items on the bottom and quick ones on top and it evens itself out. Trial and error i am afraid. Good luck

Preheating the oven seems to work better for me than not doing so.

Preheating the oven

Post  mo on 27.07.11 21:20

I have never preheated, not even for frozen wedges or pizza, never had a problem. My problem comes with frozen veg, after 18 months still haven't managed to cook them properly!

I have recently started to pre heat and find the food heats through to the centre of the dish better. It is particularly noticeable with the Macaroni Bake.

Sarah Flower recommends pre heating and she has become my guru. If she says so, it must be right. lol!
