Rack for small Halogen Oven

Post  Francesca on 26.04.10 20:27

I've just bought a 3.5 litre Halogen Oven and it only has one rack at the bottom, therefore food would be too low for grilling.

Is there anywhere I can get a higher rack, or any suggestions as to how I could either raise the rack in order to get food nearer the heat source for grilling?

I had thought maybe I could put something under the rack to raise it, but am not sure what can or cannot be used in the oven.

There were no instructions or recipe book with it, but I'm not bothered about recipes, its the grill function that I need to know.

Thank you

Francesca

Hi Francesca and welcome

welcome

I don't know where you could get a higher rack but you can use anything that goes in a conventional oven ie baking trays, tin foil, foil containers, ovenproof glassware etc.

You could try a baking tin upside down or similar under the rack.

These ovens are great energy savers and if you simply treat it as a mini oven you will get so much more from it than grilling. Worth a try?

thank you for both the welcome and the advice. Because this oven is so small - ideal for just myself - I'd been trying to think what I could use to put under the rack to raise it. Also what sort of dish/bowl I could put on the rack itself if necessary.

Would ovenproof earthenware be suitable?

Hi Francesca

Yes, anything ovenproof is fine - you just can't use plastics etc designed for a microwave as they would melt. Ready meals are fine too as long as they are suitable for oven cooking. Very Happy

Thanks dreamteamgirl

It would depend on the diameter whether these would fit a 3.5 litre oven. I have asked the seller for the size and will post it here if he replies.

The seller has just replied and the racks are approx 24.5cm in diameter. The ones in my 7 litre oven are only 20cm so I think these would be too big for the 3.5 litre models also. It was worth a try though.
