Hi I'm a newbie with an Andrew James Hinged Digital Oven

Post  karenh955 on 23.05.14 17:56

Hi, I have just received my new halogen oven. It's an Andrew James hinged digital oven. Just wondering if there was anyway of being able to "lock" the lid open? I decided on a hinged lid because i didn't like the idea of having to take a lid off and putting it on a stand, but i'm finding it difficult to hold the lid open whilst lifting out using the tongs. Have i missed something or is the way the hinged lid works? I have been using a Breville Halo fryer but decided i needed a bigger oven as i couldn't fit much in the Halo and that hinge lid does stay up.

Thanks for reading!

Hi Karen,
I don't have the hinged lid oven so I can only comment on what I have seen on some infomercial.
When the lid is opened it stays up until you manually close it.

(Is there a switch to lock it open) check the instruction may be this is mentioned.

This doesn't sound right to me. You could burn your hands if the hot lid keeps shutting / coming down.

It would be wise to contact Andrew James and explain this problem.

Hope it get sorted soon Karen

Thanks Reeta.

I've just had a play around with the lid and moved the oven. Apparently you need space height wise for the lid to lock in open! Had to move it away from my cupboards so that it can open fully.  Very Happy

You need some space whether hinged or not. Mine isn't but I have to have the room to get the lid off safely and some space for the lid rack on the side. I originally put it under a cupboard and the resulting burns took 6 months to fade

andrew james hinged lid

My daughter has the same problem with the hinged lid on this oven, it keeps slowly closing once opened. I have the same oven and mine stays upright as soon as I open it. I have just rang Andrew James and queried this problem and was told this oven is not designed for the lid to remain upright when opened. I did mention this does not seem right having to hold the lid while trying to sort whatever you are trying to prepare but all I had was the same response it is not designed to stay upright. When I mentioned returning the oven was then told would have to pay for any returns as it would be classed as a not required item as opposed to being faulty, not very amused with this reply
