Rice Dish as a Steamer?

Post  sunandmoontome on 11.02.14 22:36

Just thought I'd share as steaming in general seems to cause headaches with the HO, and until today this method gave me pretty nice results!

Basically, get your rice dish/cake tin, and just fill it with about half an inch of boiling water from the kettle. Pop in all your chunked up veg, slap on the lid, sit on low rack and zap on full pelt for 20-30 mins. Its shape seems to aid the cook time, and is the only method I've found (thus far) that gets root veg and things reasonably soft.

(* I say until today because earlier I tried doing a chorizo omelette in same rice dish and now have cremated egg all over the interior which refuses to come off!!!)

And while we're on the subject- how do you use the steamer tray? I'm considering putting water in the cake/rice cooker then resting the steamer tray on top with the veggies on that? Would that work?
