Protection of black power cable on hot Halogen oven

Post  realalemadrid on 19.03.13 10:26

I found the black power lead cable a bit of a liability near the hot oven and it came a bit too close to melting the insulation once or twice. So I got a length of 'cable tidy' if you don't know what this is its a transluscent plastic that you literally wrap round any cable, often used in old Hi Fi sets ups when there were a 'spaghetti' of wires behind the separates or in computer set ups. Anyway I wrapped this round the power cable, it keeps its shape much better and seems to hold the power cable away from the oven. and you have added protection if it does happen to touch the hot oven. Highly recomended!

Hi,
That's a very good tip. I had my first HO a couple of weeks ago and found the same problem with the cable, so I used one of those white plastic hooks with a sticky backing. I stuck this to the tiles behind where my HO sits in the kitchen, and the cable rests over the hook.

The JML oven has a protective sleeve on that particular part of the cable.
I wrap Electricians tape to that piece of the cable.

Great tip!

Although I have a JML and just looked at the lead and can't see anything other than usual insulation on mine but I've always been very careful about the lead and the lid getting too close- if I am not making tea or coffee I use the kettle to keep them apart
