FIRST TIME USER- EXCITED :)

Post  emmylou on 03.01.13 12:07

Hello All.

I have juut bought a Halogen Oven after not having an oven for nearly 2 years so am very excited. Cooked for the first time on Tuesday evening. Lamb chops, runner beans, carrots, Roast Potatos and Yorkshire Pudding... was so yummy and easier than I thought, though cooking times and tempreatures took a litle working out, and I nearly burnt the Pots as I put them too close to the element to begin with!!!

Am so excited to experiment and any tips, recepies, anything, will be really appreciated. Thanks. Very Happy

I am making banana chips right now. Hope it turns out. I did the chicken which went very well and I did a pork tenderloin which worked well too. Might try granola later today. I want to make some chicken jerky for my dog. So many things I want to do. I LOVE IT!!!

Enjoy, just think of it as a mini oven, its nothing like a microwave so just experiment, don't put stuff too close to the element, don't have it too hot so that you nuke everything, experiment with the low rack as well as the high rack and try the extension ring with a few things as well and see how they go, cheers, PS The book by Sarah Flower, The everyday halogen oven cookbook, as well as this forum of course is very useful.

I thought 'letalone' was a a dish/recipe, I've never heard of - after a while I realised it's 'let alone' lol!

Glad you're still having fun, just a couple of things I have found. Remember its a mini oven so ideal for a start for heating up pies etc or anything that needs warming up and it won't incinerate it in the middle like a microwave and you don't end up having to heat up a whole big oven just to warm up a mince pie. Try 'Aunt Bessies' oven chips, they are the best, cooking times on here somewhere, sausages especially thick cumberland are great, you don't end up with a burnt caramalised frying pan or grill pan and smoke all over the kitchen, cooking times vary but remember to turn once then I usually finish for a couple of minutes with the sausage turned so it is 'U' shaped sticking up if you see what I mean, bacon is easy and check out boiled and fried eggs on this site. Belly pork great as it runs all the fat off, chicken portions ace also. Always remember to heat the oven up for a few minutes before starting cooking for best results. Enjoy!

Ok... tried Steak and Chips last night, was not as succesful as my previous attempts but netherless I tried and it was edible.

Steak was a little tough, and the chips seemed to cook too quickly on the outside although not so well on the inside, which might just mean that I need to use the extender, although all the tips on here did not allude to that, but I will keep experimenting!
