Welsh Cakes Recipe

I was wondering if any of you would have a recipe for Welsh Cakes, my friend use to make them, she cooked them in a frying pan.
I have tried a couple of recipes off the internet they did not taste the same.

Welsh cakes are just flat scones cooked quickly on a cast iron frying pan ,in wales they use a bake -stone which is used on top of the stove.try that way and see if any better.

I have tried a few recipes, they just do not seem to taste the same.
They taste more like short pastry, maybe I could cut the butter down or try a scone recipe.

Although i live in wales i am not Welsh,most recipes are a family secret .This seems a basic recipe then adjust to taste.my sister in law adds cinnamon to some ??

When I was young, when I made welsh cakes I always intended to fill the biscuit tin... never did it, my large family were standing in a row having them fresh off the pan, all six of them made sure I never had any to put in tin, The same with pancakes.

They were a great hit, with with everyone, she was always making them for our get togethers, kids lunchs, she always had a tin with welsh cakes.
When I have made them, they do not taste the same maybe my taste buds are not the same after all these years.

here is my mamgu (grandmothers) recipe for bakestones (welsh cakes)
12 ozs self raising flour
6 ozs butters or marg or a mixture of both
4 1/2 ozs caster sugar
3 ozs currants
2 medium eggs
method
place the currants in a bowl cover with boiling water leave to soak while preparing the rest of the ingredients.
rub in the butter with the flour to resemble fine bread crumbs mix in the sugar. Drain the currants and add to the dry ingredients with the beaten eggs mix to a firm dough. If too dry add a little milk roll out to about 1/4 inch thickness.Make rounds with a 3 to 3 1/2 inch cutter . place on a preheated bakestone or heavy fry pan not to high a heat as you want to cook through . As soon as the bottom browns turn them over to brown the other side.Then dredge in caster sugar whilst still hot.; ieched dda good health
