Disappointing and a waste of money

Post  Clydesdale on 25.04.12 21:13

I love my halogen oven. I bought it during 2011 when away in the trailer tent in Suffolk.
We had forgotten our cooker so had nothing to cook with. I went to Argos and bought a Gourmet Sensiohome - and have now had to replace it. The quality was not good and last week the knobs broke off. I can use another timer but I have no idea what temperature I am turning to.
Today my new one arrived in the post - by Andrew James - and the quality difference is quite obvious. This time I have a 2-year guarantee - always worth having and am only annoyed with myself that I cannot find the receipt for the first one as I would have taken it straight back.
A lesson learned.

Hi Clydedale

That's a real shame about your first oven and I'm sorry you can't find the receipt. It's the first time I've heard of the knobs breaking off any model.

I have recently bought the Andrew James one and I'm delighted with it. The 2 year guarantee is a welcome bonus. I hope you have a much longer and happier relationship with your new HO.

Thank you June. I was beginning to get withdrawal symptons Smile as I try to cook everything in my oven. It has certainly reduced our electricity bill over the last year. The Andrew James cooks much more evenly too I have discovered - so I am a happy bunny Very Happy

I bought the Andrew James, never used an HO before, nearly gave up on it as the instructions are nil...glad I did, I love it now, with tips off the forum and a bit of perseverance I'm cooking all sorts..
Which is a good job as my cooker is disconnected due to a kitchen makeover,, Wink

Well I've got to say it was the best chilli I've ever cooked..(if I say so myself) Wink

I've decided just to follow my nose with my HO, and it works!

Sounds fantastic Nanan. Did you get the recipe from the site or did you sort it out yourself? I love to do casserole type meals but the HO doesn't seem to lend itself to that - best for reheating them, which isn't much good when we are away in our tent.

I'll try again, I cheated a bit Clydsdale, I used a basic jar of Aldiss chilli sauce, just added a few more things...fried onions done in the HO, red and black pepper flakes, tbls of Tom purée, there was some kidney beans in the jar of sauce...very nice

That sounds lovely Smile. At this very moment I have a pasta bake doing in my HO - for the first time I have done everything in the HO - using the black non-stick plate that came with it. Cooked the bacon, onions, peppers and mushrooms, added them to the pasta I had cooked in the microwave, covered it with grated cheese and it is cooking now. As we are hoping to use this in the trailer tent I am trying to do all my meals in the HO - but I must admit there are times when I will need to boil stuff like pasta. Lovely smells coming from the kitchen Smile
