Has anyone done "Bubble & Squeak", please? With their HO.

Post  kensim on 09.04.12 16:45

Had family visit yesterday, and being still on a learning curve, I over prepared the quantity of Veg required for our get together dinner. And now have a surplus of cold Veg. My wife wants me to use them for "Bubble & Squeak", which she would cook with a Frying Pan, but as I now do 99% of the cooking, using our HO, I would like to use the HO for the B&S.

Just wonder if anyone has done this yet, if so, was it successful and what settings (Heat,Time, & etc..) you used?

Thanks Junie, I tried just a small amount, as the wife was not keen on trying my first B&S on the HO, so she did the rest the old frying pan way. Sad to say her results were the best.

Mine were too dry and slightly over burnt.

200C high rack with extender, on a non-stick baking tray.
Approx. 15 minutes. With turning after 7 minutes.

And have noticed that non-stick seems less efficient in HO, very hard to clean.

Must be doing a lot wrong!

Thanks for letting us know how you got on, kensim. Perhaps a lower temperature would have worked better Question

I haven't noticed the non-stick thing but everything here gets blasted in the dishwasher.

You're not doing a lot wrong but just getting used to a new way of cooking like everyone else here Smile

My new HO arrived today my first try was bubble and squeak with bacon and eggs. I cooked the B&S on a high rack at 200c it took longer than I expected, probably about 20 minutes before it turned brown. I stirred a few times during the cooking. I then lowered it in to the bottom whilst grilling the bacon. The eggs were out of the fridge so took longer than six minutes to boil them but I was pleasantly surprised at the results.

Thanks for posting pauline88, I must give it a try again.

Must adjust my settings though, as I guess you are probably using a 12 Litre HO, and mine is a 7 Litre HO.

when i do it in the halogen i make the b&s into round cakes similar size to a nice thick fishcake . placed them on a oiled ovenproof dish at about 200c high rack with extender cook until top is browned then turn gently using a fish slice oiled. cook on that side till nicely browned tastes wonderfull

Gee! Sorry I have been absent so long, thanks to the helpful replys to this post, and the email I received I have returned. Have been very busy over the past year or so, caring for my wife, who thankfully is no worse, but still suffers much pain at varying times. So my house-keeping keeps me well occupied.

I digress, HO is used quite frequently with mostly ready prepared food, but does get used for the simple things, Baked Spuds, Bacon, Bangers, and such like. Haven't tried B&S again, but now with the tips posted will definitely give them another go.

Thanks to All, and keep up the good work. You must have helped many others to cook with their HOs. Very Happy
