Halogen Oven stuck on 220 degrees setting

Post  dogden1 on 04.03.12 14:01

Hello

My name is David. I purchased a Cookshop Halogen oven from a certain shopping channel about 3 years ago as a Xmas present for my mother and never had any trouble with it.

However, last Thursday I decided to make the Pasta Bake recepie from the halogen Oven Made Simple cookbook The last step involved turning the oven down from 250 to 180 degrees. I must have openend the oven lid before the timer went to O as the topping was burning.

There was not a problem with the oven until the next day when I tried to reheat the pasta bake for 15 mintues. I set the oven to 150 and left if to do other jobs. After I heard the pinger go on the oven I noticed the topping was burnt to a cinder.

I useed the oven the next day to thaw some fish cakes and turned the setting to thaw. After 3 minutes I noticed the tops were starting to burn. the oven seems to be stuck on a temperature even when I use the thaw facility.

Any ideas as to how to reset the oven?

Thanks

David Ogden

Hi David,

I am not sure this can be reset.

What about the halogen oven light, does that stay on for a long time - as if to heat the oven to 200 degree?

Hi

Have had similar problem, but have only had HO for 5 weeks. Oven won't heat up to 250, light won't go out and the security handle gets very hot, but by contrast when baking cakes, on low rack with ER at 170 they burn. I contacted the manufacturer today and they suggest changing the bulb. Don't know if this will work, but will give it a go. Hope you get your problem sorted too.

Sorry for the delay in replying to my original post

Is there any way of repairing the thermostat or is it a case of buying a new oven?

Regards

David

Regarding the oven light. I used the oven again last night and the light did come on. I did not notice if the light switched on and off as busy doing other jobs.

Will observe this next time I use it

I used the dodgy halogen oven again tonight.

I noticed the halogen light stayed on for the duration of the cooking time. Normally the light goes on and off.

Would this have an effect with the thermostat?

Hi David, it's the opposite way round.

The light doesn't go off because the thermostat isn't working (or your cooking time is very short). The thermostat is what switches the light/heat on/off to maintain the required temperature. If the thermostat isn't working, then I can't see how changing a bulb would help - unless someone knows better?
