Newbie from Cornwall

Post  inchdarnie7 on 26.02.12 13:45

Hello - new to both Cornwall and Halogen Ovens.
Moved here 10 months ago from Scotland and loving it!! Lovely County, nice people and much warmer weather than I am used to - and no snow this winter for the first time in my (very) long life!!

Acquired a JML Halogen Oven yesterday and now want to learn all about it. Have read and heard so much about these ovens - here's hoping I get it right!!

Hi

Here is a reply Reeta put on to a previous question about this

"Be careful when buying recipe books. There are 3 halogen oven recipe books that are the same - all same recipes
1. The Halogen Oven Secret
2. The Halogen Oven Cookbook
3. New Andrew James Halogen Oven Cookbook

Author: Norma Miller"

We have recently opened up a section for reviews. My own preference is for the Sarah Flower books.

Hi

I'm from Cornwall too. Tried moving away several times but it has such a drawing on me always came home!!!!!!!

I found when I first had my HO (bought it after my friend raved about hers) it was a tad trial and error. I have done chips, roasts, steamed veg and more with mine. Would not be without one after my last broke down and was without one for a while it was awful. I got the fixed lid digital version this time round.

Have ordered the Sarah Flower "Everyday" recipe book from Amazon so will see how it goes once that arrives.
I have been a slow cooker person for many years - bung it in the slow cooker at 8am, go out to work, come back at teatime and serve it up. Will now have to get used to a different regime but looking forward to trying it out.
Read some very negative reviews about the JML HO -seems to wear out after one year - just about the same time as the guarantee - also difficult to get parts, etc. Hope that is not the case with the one I have got.
And yes, I agree, definitely will have to be a very good reason to prise me back out of Cornwall now that I am here!!

I am in Probus - nice wee village very similar to the village of St.Boswells we lived in in the Scottish Borders. We are retired farmers now come to be nearer our son who works in Truro.
