Five spice chicken

Post  eajess on 21.02.12 15:59

Hi, hope this question isn't in duplicate.

Has anyone tried five spice chicken in Hamlyn's 200 HO recipes. Just made the marinade and now thinking about the cooking. It says place foil on top rack, surely the foil should be on the baking tray in case foil gets pierced and any marinade leaks. Also the recipe does not mention using the ER, but at 200 for 25 mins, wouldnt the garlic burn.

Any assistance gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

Liz

Just had look see at the recipe, got the boo few weeks ago and not impressed with it really :-( it sounds as if the foil is a make-shift baking tray/ pan!?!
Myself I think I would prob cook it on sqewers on the fry pan tray on lower so not to burn.
It sounds yummy recipe, let me know how you get on please! :-)

Hi

I don't have this recipe but I always use the extender when using the top rack - I would also place foil parcels on a baking tray too. Hope this helps.

Hi

thanks to Junie and Mummybabs. Have just made this, put foil on the baking tray on high rack with ER, cooked at 175 for 25 mins. Dry as leather and not worth the effort at all. Second Hamlyn recipe I tried today and not happy with either. Sarah Flower books are by far the best.

Back to the drawing board!!!!!

whatever happened to cookery books that really gave the results they promised. Sick of trying to cook with awful recipes and having to second guess all the time. The above recipe was truly grim and a waste of money. This HO could be going free to a bad home.

Hi Liz

Don't give up on your HO because of bad recipes. The HO is a great little oven - I couldn't do without mine now. Why not try a couple of recipes that have been posted by our members - at least you know they have actually tried them in a HO Smile

Thanks Junie. As you probably realised I was a bit rattled, but have calmed down now. Will give it a rest for a few days and then go back all guns blazing!!!

Aw shame it did not turn out good.
Sadly it seems alot of recipes have been wrote and not atually tested :-(
Keep trying it gets better the more you get used to your HO :-)
