Is there a good book covering the basics for blokes?

Post  scgf on 17.02.12 18:51

I have just bought the Aldi halogen oven and need a book which covers the basics - like how to do cheese on toast, how to heat supermarket ready meals, what to use the frying and steaming trays for and so on. I don't really want to cook full family meals - I am a single guy and tend to cook fairly basic stuff. The most advanced I get is to throw a chili together, or get a jar of sauce to add to some meat. I need to know how to do these things.

The ideal book would be 'Halogen Cooking for Blokes'!

There must be something out there for me!

Cheers.

Hi

I tried cheese on toast. Placed on high rack at 250. Cook until toast looks done, I did not toast the other side, but buttered and sliced cheese and place on the 'un toasted' side. Cooked until bubbling. Looked wonderful, and tasted ok but when I turned the heat off the cheese cooled really quickly and was somewhat rubbery. I'm sure there is a better way of doing it but it was edible. Thanks for asking about cook in sauces, something I wondered about.

PS, grated cheese was worse than sliced.

It's actually quite a good idea to print out tips and recipes from this forum to make my own book! Will start doing that.

Thanks for your contributions!
