Only 1/2 the time

Post  teachth on 26.01.10 22:31

First, I would again like to thank Reeta for sending me the chart of average cooking times.

I saw a show on TV where they were doing demos with these ovens. They kept stressing "half" the cooking time in a regular oven. Sunday I cooked a 5 pound pork loin roast. If I had followed the cooking chart, it would have been way over cooked. I cooked it for 1 hour and 25 minutes. It was perfect!

Tonight I am going to try to roast some veggies and have some left over roast pork. Very Happy

Cheers,
Trish

wow! thanks so much.the cake i made last night was not a success. didn't rise much and tasted doughy. i cooked it on the top rack at about 150 for 20 mins but the recommended temp was 180 for 45 mins. should i have followed the temp on the cake packet or on the oven . it said 120 to 140 for 8 to 10 mins. thanks again in advance. Hi, the halogen ovens seem to work like standard fan ovens. If the recomended time etc was 180c for 45 mins, I would try 160C for 35-40mins. The speed claims for these ovens on items needing an hour or less do not appear to be substantiated.
Other cake makers on this forum have struggled with cakes, particularly fruitcakes, and recommend using ring tins or greasing a ramekin and placing in the centre of the tin for best results.
Hope this is helpful, Junie
