Cooking on a very tight budget

Post  Pezza on 14.02.12 15:21

Hi, Does anyone have a simple but tasty recipes that are cheap to make. Due to reasons I have to tighten up my money and make it last longer so need to buy cheap food and make it nice.

Thanks in advance

Hi Pezza
Your Halogen oven will use a lot less energy than a regular oven so there is the first saving. Buying cheap food to roast or grill is not the best idea. You could of course use liver or bacon and most supermarkets do a Cheaper bag of chicken portions which would be nice roasted. Tesco do a 2kg bag of portions and a 1kg bag of chicken breasts for about £4.

I have slow cooker which means I can cook cheaper joints of meat until they are succulent and I can make soups and stews.

Of course you can cook pizza or fish fingers or warm up shop bought pies but whether this is a good and tasty enough is really up to you
