Have tried twice to make the above. Yesterday placed metal plate in base of oven, cooked at 180 on top rack with ER for 25 mins Top of cake became brown very quickly so turned heat down. End result beautiful to look at but when turning out of tin the base was totally raw. Today tried again, metal plate in base of oven and placed tin on low rack, again became brown very quickly so covered in foil half way through. End result raw in the middle so turned heat down to 125 and used ER and cooked for a further 25 mins. Reasonably of but cake stuck to the base of the tin even though generously greased. What am I doing wrong.
Can I use the ER when baking on the low rack. Or should I use ER and high rack at 170 for 45 - 50 mins or more?
Totally baffled and confused.

You are not doing anything wrong Liz. Cakes and breads do not always come out perfect in HO
Some people have said they get good result just by placing a ramekin in the centre of the cake, others have bought a bundt tin to use for baking cakes in their halogen oven.
Some people get it perfect without any tricks.
if you try again
