Jacket Potato.

Post  Cazz on 07.01.12 10:30

Hello!

I am going to cook jacket potato in my oven today for the first time, have I got this right?

Wrap in foil and cook on upper shelf?

But! I want to do some chops as well, so could I put chops and potato on the lower shelf and cook together? If this can be done, could anyone tell me the timing please?
Thank you

Cazz x

Hi Cazz,

For the Jacket Potato:

1 large potato about 250g
Preheat the oven to 200c

Piece potato with a skewer or shape knife, rub a little bit of olive oil into the skin and wrap in foil.

Cook on high rack if you have an extender ring or low rack if you don’t.

Cook for about 45 to 50 mins but do check it after 30 mins or so

Chops

Cook on the same rack with the potato, at 200c for 20 mins.
Turn over after first 10 mins , then continue to cook for another 10 mins. Check the meat and cook a bit longer if needed.

yummy food

Hi, I have just cooked a potato in my oven, and after 45 mins, it was barely cooked. I always think that things cook slower when wrapped in foil, so I wasnt really suprised. Any idea what I did wrong? I know my oven isnt faulty, so its got to be something I did. I cooked it at 200 on the high rack, with the extender

Hi Teresa

I don't wrap mine in foil and they cook well at the time and temperature you used - I also use the high rack with the extender. Foil does slow things down as you have found.

Hi,
I have baked potatoes a couple of times but still experimenting with the timing. I have part cooked them in the microwave. Oiled the skins then put on high rack with ER cooked at 200. had them with pork chops done with leeks and cheese. Whilst potatoes were in microwave began to cook chops on high rack a few minutes each side. Put them in the baking tin and covered with leeks and cheese then put that on the bottom rack with potatoes on the top. the leeks were beginning to burn a bit so then covered tray with foil until potatoes were ready. Think I still need to fine tune but turned out ok.

My HO is making me lazy. When I need potatoes now, they get baked in the HO. I simply scrub, dry, and eye, place on high rack with extender, no preheat, just cook at 180 for approx 50 minutes. brilliant, if eating as just baked, then skins get eaten also, else opened and inside removed and added to main dish.
I was an absolute newbie, but this forum has certainly educated me.
Thanks to all concerned.
