Hiya! I am a new Halogen Oven owner.

Post  Cazz on 04.01.12 19:11

Hiya! My name is Cazz and I am a new Halogen Oven owner.

Now.... where do I start!

Question 1.

I dont understand how you can roast a dinner, ie meat and veg when you dont need dishes to place them in! Or do you?
I was thinking meat on the bottom rack androast veg later on the top rack!
But surely they need to be in dishes and not just straight on the rack!!??

Question 2.
It grills it says! and fries!?? How!!??

Your faithfully

A total numbskull! Embarassed

Welcome Cazz

Have a good read around the previous posts and you'll find loads of tips and advice already here.
Use the search box for help on specific topics.
Roasting meat is always best on the bottom rack with the extender ring in place - no dish required - you can of course place a baking tray underneath to catch the juices if required.
There are recipes for roasts, roast potatoes and veg already posted.

You're not a numbskull - it's been a learning curve for all of us with these little ovens. Very Happy

Thank you for the reply! I have made my first mistake! Sad well, actually 2! I should, if I had known you could, brought an oven with a hinged lid as I find the lid stand unstable!

Second mistake! I put a small joint of beef on the baking plate , on the lower rack and wrapped some veg in foil and placed on the steaming plate on the upper rack, after 40 mins I placed some pre cooked potato and carrots on the plate with the beef.

The beef took agesssss to cook! about an hour and a half! and then it was a bit rare!
I am thinking it was because the steamer should not have been above the meat obstructing the heat !

Love Cazz x

Hi Cazz

I don't actually use my lid stand - I don't like it either. I keep a chopping board next to my HO and use the extender ring as a lid stand - much more stable.

You are right that the steamer tray would slow down the cooking underneath - if you have room try placing your veg parcels on the bottom rack while the beef is cooking. They may take a bit longer but the heat to your beef won't be obstructed.

Hi Cazz

I've just become an owner of a halogen oven too! I'm with you on the hinged lid, my stand is stable enough, but the lid is a bit cumbersome to say the least! Oh well, will learn to live with it no doubt and I'm sure we'll get to grips with Halogen cooking with the help of some wonderful people on this forum!

Regards from your fellow newbie Halogen owner!
