cooking oven chips

Post  Dave101 on 03.06.11 15:07

Hi

I am still pretty new to this but I have been using my oven for a few months now and after a few initial problems including breaking off the carry handle and returning it as faulty all is now well.

The oven behaves perfectly except in one regard, oven chips.
The wire racks are great for larger items sausage chicken fish etc but chips are just too small.
Tried foil but that doesn't work that well.

I see that this Sunday June 5th Aldi are doing something called cookamesh that could be ideal.
Comes in circular and rectangular.

I was thinking of getting a couple of the circular ones and cutting them down to fit the halogen oven if they need it.
They might need sheet metal cutters but I have them

Hi Dave

Thanks, this is ideal for the job. It lets the air circulate well.
Other members have posted on this from various retailers. The ones I got cut easily with scissors.

Just an update

I bought 2 of the pizza circles from Aldi.

They are 32 centimeters across and my halogen oven is 30 cm
I used kitchen scissors to trim them down to fit and currently am cooking at 220 c and they seem fine.

I did worry because although the packaging says they take up to gas mark 10 260c 500f it says do not expose the mesh to naked flames burners or heating elements.

Hi Dave

I'm glad you got them. Don't worry about the heat - as long as you don't let them touch the heating element they'll be ok. As they are used on a shelf, that wouldn't be a problem for you. Very Happy

Might get a couple more as they are only £1-99 and experience with Aldi is that such items come around once a year.

The rectangular version would be good for a small oven but the photo is deceptive they are not the full size of a standard oven shelf.
