Another complete newbie

Post  gadgetgran on 18.02.11 21:15

I am completely new to this sort of cooking I bought my oven this morning and had a complete disaster tea. I tried to make a casserole and put all the ingredients in the pot, 2 hours later the potatoes were still hard. I had to cover it with tin foil to stop the top burning. Finally I took it out and boiled it in a pan it actually tasted good but sort of defeated the object of using a H.O.

Hi Gadgetgran and welcome

Welcome

I take it you didn't use a casserole dish inside your HO. As you have already found, food placed in the bowl takes a long time to cook as the hot air can't circulate underneath.
When you get time, have a good read around the forum - you'll soon be a halogeniuos Laughing

Thank you June for your answer.

Yes you are right I put the food straight in the bowl I came on the forum after my tea had been on for well over an hour and no signs of being ready I realized I should have used another dish but I didn't know why. What you said makes perfect sense now. So I will give it another go tomorrow with something different.

Welcome to the forum Dot.

just think of your disaster as a learning experience. When you have the time, it would be wise to read the previous posts for tips and advice. This way you'll be aware of what not to do in your HO.

If you have specific questions do not hesitate to ask Smile

Hi I just thought I would let you know I am getting to grips with my HO After my first attempt which was a bit of a disaster. I successfully made Sausage pasta bake yesterday and we have just finished our dinner of egg and cheese muffins which was delicious. So after my first doubts about my new oven I am convinced it is going to be a very good and well used addition to my kitchen.
